Medora Musical

The Medora Musical is North Dakota’s most beloved summer celebration. Nestled in the breathtaking Badlands, the town of Medora boasts a storied Wild West history: this was the place where 26th United States President Theodore Roosevelt fell in love with the natural world, earning him the nickname of “Our Conservation President.” The Medora Musical is an annual tribute to “TR” and the undaunted spirit of the West. And–there’s singing and dancing!

RWS Global was hired in 2023 by the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation to write and produce this iconic Western musical. As the RWS Global team writer, Monica worked with stakeholders from TRMF to research and then draft an original script starring Joe Wiegand, the nation’s premier Theodore Roosevelt re-eneactor. Monica and RWS Global’s music team developed a “jukebox” score of classic pop, country, and folk favorites which spoke to Medora’s multi-generational audience.

After the script was locked, Monica worked with a stellar cast of musical theatre performers as the associate director, focusing on text interpretation, dramaturgy, and scene work. She stayed on after opening to co-write and produce the Medora Gospel Brunch, an exuberant live gospel concert performed by the same cast (sweetly paired with North Dakota’s best caramel rolls – if you know, you know!).
